Sara Roush

"Sara Roush, I can't say enough about her. She is my dear friend and art mentor. We still paint together and have lunch. We talk frequently and it is about life, family, the world, politics, economics and always about art. She has been a business woman, single mother, art instructor, and so much more. She designed an ad for Colonel Sanders one time and he drove up to her house in a white limousine, because he wanted to meet her. Of course the neighbors were all agog. She has a very good reputation around Louisville and is highly respected."

Mary Whyte

The rich heritage of the Gullah population on the barrier islands around Charleston has inspired Mary Whyte for the last decade. Her Gullah paintings breathe with depth and texture, from flaking house paint to translucent skin tones. Whyte's astonishing deftness with the delicate medium of watercolor captures the expressive eyes and facial details in images that are larger than life.

Mary Whyte was born in Ohio in 1953. She graduated from the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia and is an avid teacher and writer. Her work has appeared in many publications such as American Artist and Watercolor magazine. Whyte has illustrated more than 10 children's books and her instructional guidebook, Watercolor for the Serious Beginner, is now in its fourth printing. Whyte lives and works from a small coastal island off of Charleston and teaches painting workshops all over the country.

Don Getz

Born in 1934, in the small northeast Ohio town of Salem, Don Getz took to art at the ripe age of five, drawing steel trucks and cars of customers at his father's steel fabrication business. Getz worked in commercial art for 23 years, as an illustrator and producer of TV commercials, turning to a career in fine art in 1977. Original paintings by Getz have garnered over forty national awards, including four gold medals and have been selected for exhibition in almost every national show. For more information, visit his web site at http://www.watercolor-online.com/DonGetz/.

"Don Getz set me free by painting on gesso. His workshop was fun, informative, relaxed and exciting. I haven't stopped painting on gesso since."
