Description

I was invited to paint at the DuPont Mansion in Old Louisville this summer.  The owners, Gayle and Herbert Warren held a Plein Air Painting event.  They purchased the DuPont Mansion in 2000 and turned it into a Bed and Breakfast in 2001.  The DuPont Mansion has a storied history.  Built by the DuPont brothers, Alfred Victor and Biederman around 1879 in the Victorian Era Italianate Renaissance style, I was excited to participate in this historic estate!  At one point, this building was turned into apartments.  One of the inhabitants in 1922, was W. H. McAlpin, an engineer, for whom the lock and dam system on the Ohio River, was named after in 1964.  I did this en plein air painting in the garden of this estate.  When the owner saw it, she said, "You know I have to have it".  She purchased it from me.
