Black maned lions are from Kalahari. I painted the background first. It is acrylic on gessoed paper. I put it aside. One day, I looked at it again and I just saw this lion in the picture. I thought he would be perfect with these earthy colors. When I finished painting him, I sprayed the painting with a protective finish. When that was dry, I brushed a polycrylic over that. In the meantime, I prepared the wood panel block. Afterward the painting was adherred to the block. It had to sit 24 hours with weight on top. The final process was to brush polycrylic over the entire piece to protect it. It was then wired for hanging.
